FORESTRY FACULTY

Forestry faculty is the oldest one in the Academy. Nowadays having got education students of FTA become foresters and state forest inspectors, workers connected with planting of seedlings in forest nurseries for the sake of artificial reforestation; specialists in plant diseases and harmful insects, specialists in forest pathology; workers of expeditions for forest arrangement enterprises, workers of nature protection departments, committees and laboratories; specialists in drainage or irrigation of forest lands; specialists in hunting management, researches working in state reserves.

FOREST ENGINEERING FACULTY

The main task of the faculty is to train engineers-technologists of broad type in logging branch. Specializations: Technology of Forest Industry Production; Designing, Construction and Exploitation of Forest Roads and Forest Construction Machines; Melioration of Timber-rafting Ways and Water Transport of Wood; Technology and Equipment of Forest Stocks and Forest Yards, Roads and Forest Ports; International Transport of Wood; Forest Industry Production Software; Inspection and Certification of Wood Produce; Organization of Forest Production and Forest Entrepreneurship.

FACULTY OF MECHANICAL PROCESSING OF WOOD

The faculty consists of 5 departments: Technology of Woodprocessing Production; Machinery and Mechanisms of Woodworking Industry; Automation of Production Processes; Theory of Mechanisms, Machine Parts and Lifting and Transport Machines; Electrical Engineering and Electric Devices. Faculty graduates work as engineers and managers at the sawing, veneer, woodworking, furniture and other enterprises, in branch research and designing organizations, as specialists in certification of woodworking industry produce, in higher and secondary forest technical schools.

FOREST MECHANICAL FACULTY

Graduates of the faculty become first-class specialists working at forest industry enterprises, forest machine construction and repair enterprises, in the field of motor vehicle exploitation, in research and designing institutes. The faculty contains 6 departments: Wheeled and Crawler Forest Machinery; Design of Special Forest Machines; Technology of Forest Machine Construction and Repair; Theoretical Mechanics; Thermal Techniques; Health and Safety

FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT

This faculty is the oldest among similar educational structures. The 75th anniversary of the beginning of economical education in FTA and 70 years since the Economical faculty was founded were celebrated in 2000. Faculty graduates have been always working as the heads at the Russian forest enterprises.

FACULTY OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY OF WOOD

Bachelors, engineers and Masters are prepared at this faculty, specializing in technology of pulp, paper, paste-board, plate production, hydrolysis and microbiological production, forest chemical production and biologically active substances (BAS).

FACULTY OF PRELIMINARY TRAINING

The main goal of the faculty is to provide school-leavers with a fuller information concerning FTA departments and faculties, to acquaint with different specialties and to prepare them for entering the Academy. The faculty offers several forms of education: preliminary vocational trainin school; preparatory department; preparatory courses; special training classes; groups of extended training.
Target groups are focused on providing with personnel forestry industries and chemical forestry industries of Russia. Candidates are directed by state or municipal organ with a view of deciding social and economical regional problems, enrollment being from the 1 st of September.
The program of professional orientation for 6-11 form pupils of St.Petersburg and Leningrad region was elaborated within the frame of this faculty

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES

Faculty of Humanities exists in its present form since 1990. it consists of several departments: Philosophy; History and Law; Culture, Sociology and Politics (including psychology and pedagogy as compulsory subjects); Foreign Languages, Russian Language; Physical and Sport Education.
The faculty supervises an issue of newspaper "Lesotechnic", conducts annually traditional poetry competitions and arts exhibitions. During 12 years above 3,5 thousand students have a possibility to attend the State Museum of Hermitage with season tickets.
